MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday again called for support for the Philippines’ bid to join the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during this year’s first Vin d’Honneur at the Malacañan Palace.
The Philippines is vying for a non-permanent seat in the UNSC for the term 2027-2028. The Security Council is primarily responsible for maintaining international peace and security.
Article continues after this advertisement“I take this opportunity anew to convey to your respective governments our earnest request for your support to our UNSC bid, and we hope for your support when the time comes when we are indeed sitting as a member of the Security Council,” Marcos said in his speech.

Marcos also underscored that the Philippines has a “rich experience in building peace, forging consensus, and finding new paths for cooperation.”

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) shed 0.49 percent, or 36.67 points, to close at 7,400.33.

The Philippines last took a seat in the Security Council for the term 2004-2005.
